Bio

Robin Farmer is an award-winning author, screenwriter and journalist. She specializes in strong female protagonists interested in identity, truth-telling and service to others. Her Catholic upbringing in Philadelphia generated guilt and stories, including her debut YA novel Malcolm and Me (2020), adapted from her own screenplay. Writer/director of two shorts, Robin was recently awarded the 2023 Stowe Story Labs Bellem Entertainment Fellowship and a Hedgebrook Residency. Director of the Virginia Screenwriters Forum, she is writing a pilot and another novel.

Robin Farmer is an award-winning author, screenwriter and journalist. She writes strong female protagonists interested in identity, truth-telling and service to others. Her Catholic upbringing has generated guilt and stories, including her debut YA novel Malcolm and Me (SparkPress 2020), adapted from her own screenplay. Accolades include the 2021 Eric Hoffer Grand Prize Short List; 29th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards Middle-Grade/Young Adult Books Honorable Mention; Page Turner Awards finalist; Pre-Teen and Teen Human Relations Children’s Indie Book Award Gold Winner; 2021 Library of Virginia Literary Award nominee; and, 2019 winner of the She Writes Press and SparkPress Step Toward Equality (STEP) Contest.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Robin knew since third grade that she wanted to write. She was recently awarded the 2023 Stowe Story Labs Bellem Entertainment Fellowship and a Hedgebrook Residency. Other awards for the writer/director of two short films include residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Rowland Writers Retreat, Djerassi Resident Artists Program and a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship at the University of Michigan. Her presentations include the Virginia Festival of the Book (2021), James River Writers (JRW) Conference (2021, 2020), and AWP (2019).

When not writing, Robin volunteers with organizations that empower writers and filmmakers. Director of the Virginia Screenwriters Forum, she is a member of Women in Film and Video, the James Branch Cabell Library Associates Board, James River Writers and Women of Color Unite. Robin lives with her husband in a Virginia suburb and is writing a pilot and a second novel.
